Journey to Crete's most celebrated beach — a rose-tinted sandbar at the island's wild southwestern tip, where a shallow tidal lagoon of improbably clear water separates the shore from a tiny islet. Consistently ranked among Europe's finest beaches.
What to expect
Your air-conditioned coach winds through the dramatic Sfakia mountain villages, stopping for a coffee and a glimpse of gorge views en route. Arriving at Elafonissi, you have 3–4 free hours: wade across the pink-tinged sandbar to the islet, snorkel in crystalline shallows, or simply settle into a sunbed with a chilled Cretan rosé. The guide is on hand throughout for recommendations. The return route offers a different perspective of western Crete's rugged coastline.
Good to know
Elafonissi is approximately 76 km southwest of Chania — around 1.5 hours each way. Depart early (09:00) to arrive before peak midday crowds. Confirm all-aboard time is no earlier than 19:00 when calling at Chania. Bring cash for sunbeds, snacks, and drinks at the beach kiosks.
