Escape to the uninhabited nature reserve of Dia Island — a shimmering, car-free marine sanctuary just off Heraklion — aboard a sleek catamaran, with snorkelling over Posidonia meadows, cliff jumping, and a full Cretan feast served at anchor.
What to expect
Board the catamaran at Heraklion's old Venetian harbour and sail north across the deep Aegean towards Dia's limestone cliffs. Anchor in a jewel-green cove and slip into water with 25-metre visibility over intact Posidonia sea-grass. The crew sets up a snorkel trail and optional cliff-jump platform while the chef prepares a spread of grilled octopus, fresh salad, local cheese, and chilled Assyrtiko white wine. Afternoon sailing back is relaxed — sip cocktails on the nets and watch Crete's mountains recede into the haze.
Good to know
Departures are from Heraklion Old Port, a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal. Boats depart at 09:30 and return by 16:30 — well within typical all-aboard windows. Confirm availability directly with Nostos Cruises and book at least 1 week in advance in high season. Reef-safe sunscreen is requested in the marine reserve.
