Connected to the mainland by a 768m causeway, Odongdo is a jewel of the Korean coast — dense with 3,000 wild camellias, bamboo groves, sea caves, and a storied lighthouse. In full bloom (Feb–March) it is one of the most photographed islands in Korea.
What to expect
Stroll or ride the charming Dongbaek Train along the causeway with the sea on both sides, arriving at an island draped in subtropical foliage. Winding paths lead past dramatic sea cliffs, blowhole caves that spray mist in rough weather, and a traditional lighthouse with panoramic views. The camellia trees, which can exceed 100 years old, form a cathedral-like canopy. Birdsong and the sound of waves make this one of the most serene spots in Yeosu.
Good to know
Odongdo is walkable (1–1.5 hrs for the full loop) and just 20 minutes by taxi from the cruise pier. No vehicle access beyond the causeway. Ideal in late afternoon light. Combine with Yi Sun-sin Square nearby for a full morning. Suitable for all fitness levels.
