Yi Sun-sin Square & Turtle Ship: Korea's Greatest Naval Hero

Stand before the towering bronze statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin — the Korean naval genius who defeated Japan's vast armada with a handful of iron-clad 'Turtle Ships' — and board a life-size replica of his legendary vessel. This is where Korean pride runs deepest.

What to expect

The waterfront square is centred on a dramatic multi-storey statue of the admiral, flanked by a fully reconstructed Geobukseon (Turtle Ship) you can board and explore below decks. Your private guide explains the revolutionary iron-plated design that made the ships virtually impenetrable, and the tactical genius of Yi Sun-sin who never lost a battle. The surrounding promenade overlooks the very harbour from which the admiral launched his campaigns, making the history feel immediate and real.

Good to know

The square is an easy 10–15 minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride from the cruise pier — ideal as a morning opener or a final stop before re-boarding. Allow 1–1.5 hours with a guide. Combine with Odongdo Island (15-minute walk along the waterfront) for a seamless half-day.
