Journey to a working 17th-century sugar-cane estate along Brazil's historic Caminho do Ouro (Gold Trail) for an intimate private tour of one of Paraty's oldest artisanal cachaça distilleries, followed by a farm-to-table lunch that celebrates the flavours of the Costa Verde.
What to expect
A private vehicle collects you from the dock and follows a stretch of original 18th-century gold-paved trail through the Atlantic Forest to Fazenda Murycana, a beautifully preserved colonial farm with original ox-powered mill still in use. The owner walks you through the entire artisanal process — from hand-cut cane to copper pot-still — before guiding a structured tasting of four to six aged cachaças, explaining terroir and barrel selection with the rigour of a fine-wine producer. A long, leisurely lunch of traditional Costa Verde dishes — moqueca, rice, farofa and tropical fruits — is served on the estate's shaded veranda, accompanied by cachaça cocktails and fresh juice.
Good to know
Fazenda Murycana is approximately 15 minutes from the historic centre by car. Reserve transportation in advance through Paraty Tours or your hotel. The full experience runs three to four hours — pair with a morning historic-centre walk for a perfect day ashore. Not suitable for guests unable to manage short unpaved paths.
