Journey to the remote eastern tip of San Cristóbal to find the only colony of red-footed boobies in the Galápagos that is accessible from a cruise port — alongside frigatebirds, Nazca boobies, and sea lions on a beach most visitors never reach.
What to expect
A scenic panga ride along San Cristóbal's wild coastline delivers you to a sweeping green-sand beach framed by tuff cliffs. A short hike through dry scrub brings you face-to-face with nesting red-footed boobies perched at eye level in palo santo trees — the only place in the islands you can see all three booby species (red-footed, blue-footed, and Nazca) in one location. Snorkelling off the beach reveals sea lions playing in crystal-clear shallows. Your naturalist guide provides deep-dive commentary on seabird ecology and nesting behaviour throughout.
Good to know
Departs early (approx. 7 am) due to the longer navigation; returns by ~5 pm. A moderate level of fitness is needed for the coastal trail — uneven volcanic rock underfoot. The green-sand beach is one of only a handful in the world; bring a camera. Pre-booking essential; group sizes strictly limited by National Park regulation.
