On select full-moon nights, the receding tidal flats of Roebuck Bay reflect the rising moon into a shimmering golden staircase — one of Australia's most extraordinary natural phenomena. It is fleeting, it is tidal, and it is utterly unforgettable.
What to expect
Your guide collects you from the port and drives to Town Beach, where local stalls and food vendors create a festive but intimate atmosphere. As the full moon crests the horizon over Roebuck Bay's mudflats, the golden reflection cascades across the ripples in a staircase formation that climbs all the way to the shore. The guide points out the best vantage positions and handles timing so you never miss the peak. You return to the ship with the night still warm and the image burned into memory.
Good to know
This phenomenon occurs on only 3 nights per month (March–October) — check the official Broome Staircase to the Moon calendar before sailing. If your port day aligns, this excursion must be the absolute priority. Private pick-up from the ship dock is available; confirm your ship's late all-aboard time in advance.
