Ascend the lush highland above Brattahlid with an expert local mountain guide to a panoramic ridgeline where the Greenland Ice Sheet, glittering fjords, and Viking farmsteads converge in one breathtaking arc.
What to expect
The trail climbs steeply through wildflower meadows — angelica, arctic thyme, and willow scrub — before opening onto a broad ridge with unobstructed views over the Eriksfjord system. On clear days the distant white wall of the Ice Sheet shimmers on the horizon. Your guide points out Norse field systems below, explains the micro-climate that made this the warmest, most fertile corner of Greenland, and identifies seabird species riding thermals above the cliffs. The descent follows a different route through birch scrub back to the village.
Good to know
Moderate fitness required; boots with ankle support essential. Allow 3–4 hours return. Depart immediately after tender to maximise time on the ridge and return with ease before all-aboard.
