Paddle a sea kayak at water level through a maze of drifting icebergs in one of South Greenland's most dramatic fjords — an elemental, meditative encounter with the Arctic that stays with you for life.
What to expect
After a shoreside safety and paddle briefing, you launch into the calm inner fjord with a qualified Arctic sea-kayak guide. The silence is total except for the occasional thunderclap of a calving event in the distance. Your guide leads you around berg clusters, identifying safe channels and pointing out the vivid stratigraphy of 100,000-year-old ice. Lunch breaks can be taken on a gravel beach with a thermos of hot Arctic berry tea. The two-hour paddle is suitable for beginners in calm conditions.
Good to know
Dry suits provided; no prior kayaking experience required in calm weather. Check fjord conditions on the morning of arrival — guides will advise. Book well ahead; dry-suit inventory is limited.
