Arctic Seabird Colony Landing & Naturalist Walk

Step ashore on one of the Savage Islands' rocky outcrops to stand among thousands of nesting Arctic seabirds — murres, kittiwakes, and dovekies in spectacular concentration. A world-class ornithological encounter at the edge of the known world.

What to expect

A Zodiac transfers your intimate group (typically 8–12 guests) to a boulder-strewn shoreline where the air is thick with the calls of tens of thousands of breeding seabirds. Your Arctic ornithologist leads a slow, respectful walk along the colony edge, pausing to observe chick-rearing behaviour up close and explain the extraordinary annual migrations that bring these birds here. The treeless tundra landscape — lichens, Arctic wildflowers, and ancient granite — is as compelling as the birds themselves. Allow time to simply sit and absorb the sheer wilderness scale.

Good to know

Wear sturdy, ankle-supporting waterproof boots as the shoreline is uneven. Bring a telephoto lens for bird photography. Landings are weather- and tide-dependent; Swoop Arctic confirms viability on the morning of excursion. Typical duration 2–2.5 hours ashore plus Zodiac transfer time.
