The experience begins with a 20-minute illustrated briefing in the expedition lounge, where the geologist maps the deep-time story of the Canadian Shield — one of Earth's oldest exposed rock formations — before the group transfers to Zodiacs. Afloat, the geologist points out glacially polished rock faces, erratic boulders deposited by the retreating Laurentide Ice Sheet, and the tell-tale orange staining of iron-rich mineral seams. The cruise traces the island's coastline at near-contact range, allowing guests to photograph geological features with detail impossible from any distance. A brief landing, conditions permitting, allows hands-on examination of the rock.
