Glide by private speedboat into Misool's iconic heart-shaped lagoon at Balbulol — a cathedral of ancient limestone karst rising from turquoise water. This is Raja Ampat's most photographed secret, best savoured at your own pace.
What to expect
Your private boat threads through a maze of mushroom-shaped karst islets before the lagoon's hidden entrance reveals itself. Step ashore onto a sugar-white sandbar and wade into impossibly clear water that shifts from jade to sapphire. Your guide positions the boat for the perfect heart-framed shot, then leads you to a secret overlook for a bird's-eye panorama. The return route winds past deserted beaches and sea caves lit by shafts of equatorial sun.
Good to know
Arrange the private boat the evening before with your resort or Papua Expedition directly; depart by 06:30 to beat midday haze and other visitors. Journey from Misool pier is roughly 1.5 hrs each way — plan a full day. Bring polarised sunglasses for the best water colour.
