Coogee Coastal Walk: Worth Doing?

The Coogee coastal walk is a scenic, easy-to-moderate clifftop trail that runs about 6km from Bondi to Coogee (or the reverse). Expect beautiful ocean views, a few decent hills, several beaches along the way, and regular opportunities to stop for coffee or a swim. The track is well-maintained and mostly paved, taking 2–3 hours at a relaxed pace including photo stops. It gets quite exposed, so you'll feel the sun and wind. The walk itself is free, but most visitors combine it with food, drinks, or a guided option. Expect to pay around $60–$90 per person for a basic guided walk, or $300+ if it includes lunch and transport from the city.

Best time is spring (Sep–Nov) or autumn (Mar–May) when the temperature is comfortable and the wind isn't too brutal. Summer is stunning but hot and crowded; winter can be surprisingly pleasant if you're prepared for cooler weather. One honest tip: start at Bondi and finish at Coogee so you can end with a swim and a beer rather than a long bus ride back. Skip the overpriced guided tours with lunch unless you really want hand-holding – the path is very easy to follow on your own with a map on your phone. Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat; the sun is no joke.
