Dubrovnik Harbour Boat Tour Guide

A harbour boat tour is one of the simplest ways to see Dubrovnik's walls and Old Town from the water. Most trips last 45–90 minutes and cruise along the city walls, Lokrum island, and nearby caves. Expect beautiful light on the stone fortifications, plenty of photo ops, and a chance to swim if you pick a longer itinerary with a stop. The boats are usually small wooden or rigid inflatable vessels carrying 10–25 people; they’re comfortable but not luxurious. The motion is gentle unless the afternoon wind picks up.

Best time is late spring (May–June) or early autumn (September–early October) when the sea is calm, crowds are thinner, and prices are lower. July and August are hotter, busier, and more expensive. Expect to pay around €25–45 per person for a standard sightseeing cruise; half-day tours with swimming and drinks run €50–80. Private skippered boats for small groups start higher but give you flexibility on route and timing.

Pick a morning departure if you want calmer water and softer light; afternoon trips can be choppier. Skip the large party boats that blast music and serve cheap wine – they’re more floating bar than sightseeing. If you want swimming, choose one with a clear stop rather than a quick “jump in and out” dip. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and water; the boats rarely have shade for everyone.
