Mandai is a big nature reserve in northern Singapore with five separate parks: Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Bird Paradise, River Wonders, and Rainforest Wild Asia. Expect well-designed habitats, lots of walking (or tram rides), and decent animal viewing if you go early. It's clean, modern, and family-oriented but can feel crowded on weekends and public holidays. A full day covering everything is possible but exhausting; most people do better focusing on two or three parks maximum.
Best time is weekday mornings during the drier months (June to September). Avoid school holidays and rainy season afternoons when animals hide and paths get slippery. Expect to pay around S$50–120 per person depending on how many parks you choose; a 5-park ticket sits at the higher end while a single park is cheaper. Food and transport inside add another S$30–50 easily.
Honest tip: Prioritise the Night Safari for the unique after-dark experience and pair it with either the Zoo or Bird Paradise. Skip River Wonders unless you really like pandas or river habitats – it's the weakest of the bunch. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a rain jacket, and book tickets online in advance to avoid queues.
