Dubrovnik Old Town Walking Tour: Worth It?

A typical Old Town walking tour lasts 90 minutes to two hours and covers the main sights: the Stradun, Rector’s Palace, the cathedral, and the city walls from below. You’ll walk on smooth limestone streets that get extremely crowded and slippery when wet. Expect a mix of history, Game of Thrones references, and stories about the 1991 siege. The guide will keep you moving at a steady pace; it’s not a relaxed wander. Tours usually start near the Pile Gate or Onofrio Fountain and finish in the middle of the old town.

The best time is spring (April–early June) or autumn (mid-September–October). Summers are brutally hot, crowded, and the guides have to shout over the noise. Expect to pay around $20–35 for a standard group walking tour. Private tours or ones that include the walls usually run $60–110 depending on group size. Kayak tours around the walls are a completely different experience and cost roughly double a walking tour.
