Expect warm, clear water over shallow reefs packed with colorful fish, fans, and brain coral. Most half-day trips last 4–6 hours and include a boat ride to one or two reef sites, basic snorkel gear, and a guide. You’ll probably see sergeant majors, parrotfish, and maybe a turtle or stingray if you’re lucky. The reefs are easy for beginners but can feel crowded when multiple boats show up at the same spot. Visibility is usually good but drops after heavy rain or strong winds.
Best time is December through April when seas are calmer and water is clearest. Summer and early fall bring warmer water but higher chance of afternoon squalls and poorer visibility. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person for a standard half-day reef snorkel trip; full-day or private options run higher. Book something that visits two different reef sites instead of just one crowded stop near the main harbor.
Tip: Skip the giant catamaran party boats if you want actual snorkeling time instead of loud music and open bar. Smaller powerboat tours generally give you more reef time and fewer people in the water. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you’re picky about fit; rental gear is functional but rarely great.
