Expect warm, clear water with decent reefs just a short boat ride from the coast. You'll see colorful fish, small rays, and the occasional turtle if you're lucky. Most trips last 3–4 hours and combine snorkeling with time to swim or relax on the boat. The experience is touristy but genuinely fun if you go on a calm day; the water is usually flat and the gear is basic but functional. Crowds are common near the main reefs so don't expect total solitude.
Best time is December to April when seas are calmer and visibility is better. Summer and fall bring warmer water but higher chance of rain, wind, and occasional sargassum seaweed. Expect to pay around $45–$85 per person depending on whether it's a basic snorkel trip or a bigger catamaran party boat with lunch and drinks included. Hotel pickup adds convenience but also cost.
Pick a smaller group tour if you want more actual snorkeling time and less loud music. Skip the full-day combo tours that add Dunn's River Falls or Blue Hole unless you specifically want a long day of activities; they rush the snorkel portion and leave you tired. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them; rental gear often leaks.
