The Fundación Ecocentro is Patagonia's most architecturally striking marine interpretive centre — cliffside, whitewashed, with floor-to-ceiling Atlantic views. An intimate, unhurried deep-dive into the science and poetry of the Patagonian Sea.
What to expect
Set on a rocky promontory south of the town centre, the Ecocentro's galleries trace the full ecological story of the Patagonian Sea — from microscopic krill to blue whales — through immersive displays, specimen collections, and artist-in-residence installations. The cylindrical reading tower is stocked with marine biology texts and offers 360° panoramas over the Golfo Nuevo; during whale season (June–December) southern rights are visible from the windows. The café serves locally roasted coffee and Patagonian pastries. Allow 90 minutes.
Good to know
A 20-minute walk south along the coastal promenade from the port, or a 5-minute taxi. No advance booking required but check seasonal opening hours at ecocentro.org.ar before your call. An ideal complement to a morning whale-watching or sea lion excursion — pair the two for a full, unhurried Patagonian day. Closed Tuesdays.
