Step inside Oman's most magnificent Islamic monument before the crowds arrive. Marvel at the world's second-largest hand-loomed Persian carpet and a Swarovski chandelier of breathtaking scale — a spiritual and architectural revelation.
What to expect
Your private guide meets you at the mosque's ornate gates and leads you through the immaculate outer courtyards before entering the main prayer hall, open to non-Muslim visitors only during morning hours. The guide narrates the architectural philosophy of Sultan Qaboos and the 600 Omani craftsmen who built the structure over six years. You'll have unhurried time to photograph the 70-metre minaret and the garden colonnades before the midday heat sets in.
Good to know
The mosque opens to non-Muslims Sat–Thu, 08:00–11:00; plan to arrive by 08:30 for the best light and fewest visitors. Modest dress (abaya/robe provided if needed) is strictly required. Port Qaboos is a 15-minute drive; pre-book the private guide to ensure the morning slot. Allow 1.5 hours inside, back aboard well before all-aboard.
