Marietas Islands Boat Tour from Puerto Vallarta

The boat ride to the Marietas Islands is long and often rough. Expect roughly 2.5–3 hours each way on a catamaran or similar vessel with basic bench seating. Once there you’ll usually get a couple of hours to snorkel, kayak, or swim near the islands. The famous Hidden Beach (Playa del Amor) is not guaranteed; it depends on ocean swell and park rules that day. When conditions allow, you go through a short tunnel and come out onto the small sandy cove. The marine life is decent but not world-class; think small schools of tropical fish rather than pristine reefs.

Best time is November through April when seas are calmer and Hidden Beach access is more likely. Summer and early fall often bring bigger swells that cancel the beach visit and make the ride miserable. Expect to pay around $90–$160 per person depending on whether you choose a basic tour or one with waterslides, open bar, and extra activities. The floating party boats are popular with younger crowds.

Tip: pick a smaller group tour if you want a quieter experience and better snorkel time; the big party boats are loud and chaotic. Skip the Hidden Beach obsession—if it’s closed that day the tour is still pleasant, but don’t choose an operator solely on that promise.
